Fall Fair needs bigger board

The new board for the Summerland Fall Fair is understaffed this year with only eight members in place.

Connie Davis, outgoing president of the board, said four more would bring the board up to an effective level.

She said the future of the fair is in jeopardy if the fair does not receive more board members.

“Personally, I don’t want to see the fair go down,” she said. “I’m feeling a little positive, but guarded.”

The board includes two new members, but the volume of work results in a heavy work load for eight people. She added that a good board is needed in order to plan the annual fair, which is held in early September.

“Last year’s fair was an absolute success,” she said. “It would be wonderful if we could see it continue and grow.”

However, continuing the fair could prove difficult as there are not enough board members in place to allow for an effective board.

While volunteers are eager to come forward and help with the set-up and organization of the fair, she said there is plenty of planning as well.

“It’s the behind-the-scenes work where we need the support,” she said.

The board meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Fall Fair office. Davis said meetings are kept to one hour, although there is also some additional work for the volunteers as they prepare and organize the events.

Those interested in serving on the board are asked to call Davis at 250-494-1448.
