Summerland’s municipal council will examine the municipal budget later this month, but so far it is too early to determine if the tax rates will change as a result.
David Svetlichny, director of finance for the municipality, said council and staff are still in the early stages of the budget.
“Right now, staff are examining different projects,” he said.
A comprehensive list will come before council within the next two weeks.
The budget covers the costs of running the various municipal departments. In addition, money is set aside for capital projects and infrastructure work.
Road work and the aging Summerland Aquatic Centre have both been mentioned as areas of concern for the municipality.
The amount of the budget determines the property tax rate for the community.
Last year, property taxes in Summerland increased by four per cent. The increase was three per cent in 2016 and three per cent in 2015.
The budget process will begin later this month. A public open house on the proposed budget is scheduled for March 22.
The budget, tax rates and municipal financial plan must all be adopted by mid-May.
