The Summerland Chamber of Economic Development and Tourism is calling for nominations for 2012 board of directors.
SCEDT is a not-for-profit society registered under the federal Board of Trade Act.
SCEDT is governed by a board of directors comprised of business license holders in Summerland.
Directors are elected for a two-year term with one half of the directors retiring each year.
In 2012 the SCEDT Board has five positions up for election/reelection.
SCEDT is seeking nominations for the board of directors from within the business community.
The nominator and candidate must be current Summerland business license holders.
SCEDT is recruiting potential board members who are active in the community, are prepared to represent all of Summerland business and subscribe to positive growth and change that will strengthen the economic health of Summerland and the business community.
SCEDT is seeking representatives from specific sectors of the business community including tourism, manufacturing, trades, and agriculture.
Each nomination must include a brief biography of the nominee that includes their relevant experience and how that experience will benefit Summerland business.
Submissions must be suitable for distribution to the media and the SCEDT membership.
Fully completed nominations must be received by 5 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the SCEDT office at 15600 Highway 97 in Summerland.

All nominees must attend both a Meet the Candidate function and the annual general meeting.
The board of directors of the SCEDT subscribes to a governance model of operation.
The board is responsible to set goals and direction, to ensure the financial health of the organization and to develop policy and procedure to guide staff in fulfilling their duties.
The manager and staff are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Chamber and the Summerland Visitor Information Centre.
A director of the Summerland Chamber of Economic Development and Tourism can expect to devote eight to 12 hours a month to meetings, programs and duties.
Attendance at board meetings is mandatory.
Networking is a key component of being involved with a Chamber. Business After Business events, luncheons and professional development opportunities are opportunities for members to communicate with each other and express their questions, concerns and ideas to the board members.
Directors are required to attend as many of these events as possible.
