Chamber identifies three priority areas

The Summerland Chamber of Economic Development and Tourism will focus its attention in three areas this year.

The Summerland Chamber of Economic Development and Tourism will focus its attention in three areas this year.

Tourism, member support and business attraction and retention have been chamber priorities in the past, but Arlene Fenrich, president of the chamber, said they must all receive the same consideration.

“We feel they should all be given equal priority,” she said.

In the past, she said tourism has received much of the chamber’s attention.

Member services involves providing tangible benefits to the chamber members.

“We have some members who are not even aware what the benefits are,” she said. “We want members to see value in their membership.”

Attracting and keeping businesses will also be a chamber priority.

Fenrich said the chamber will act as an advocate for the business community as a whole rather than for an individual business.

“We have to be realistic in our endeavours,” she said. “With limited resources available, decisions have to offer an outcome that delivers on impact and the greatest good for the majority of our members.”

In addition to Fenrich, the members of the chamber board of directors are vice-president Brett DeWitt, treasuer Maged Said, past president Thor Clausen and directors Connie Denesiuk, Jason Embree and Darin Fair.
