Summerland’s two mayoral candidates will each hold public open house meetings.
On Sept. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Janet Peake will hold an open house at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church Hall, 9311 Prairie Valley Rd.
On Sept. 26 at 7 p.m., Toni Boot will hold an open house at the IOOF Hall, 9536 Main St. All are welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.
Boot and Peake are the only two mayoral candidates in the municipal election which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20.
Both candidates were elected as councillors in the 2014 municipal election.
Boot is excited about the upcoming election.
“None of the positions is acclaimed,” she said. “The seats will be filled by candidates who are duly elected. I think this is a healthy scenario and congratulate everyone who has stepped forward.”
Peake is also looking forward to the election and the next municipal council.
“I think there’s great opportunity for a future that can be progressive and welcoming,” she said.
In addition to the two mayoral candidates, there are nine candidates for six councillor positions.
School trustees will also be elected on Oct. 20, with four candidates vying for the two Summerland roles on the Okanagan Skaha School Board.
