Hard-hitting and adrenaline-filled.
Those are just two of the phrases used to describe roller derby action in Penticton, which returns on April 20, when local players host their rivals from Kelowna in regular-season play.
“Roller derby is alive and well in the city of Penticton, and we are stoked for our first home game of the season,” said Cassandra Capone, also known as ‘Ram Rod,’ president of South Okanagan Roller Derby Association (SORDA) and coach of the Penticton Pistoleras.
The Pistoleras have been a community staple for more than 10 years and play their games at the Penticton Curling Club, located at 505 Vees Drive.
Roller derby is a full-contact sport. It calls upon players to lap as many opponents as they can on roller skates.
Penticton’s game on April 20, dubbed ‘Huff, Puff, Pass,’ will feature a beverage garden and food truck.
Tickets are $15 in advance, which can be purchased on EventBrite, and $20 at the door on gameday.
First whistle is at 7 p.m.
“SORDA operates as a volunteer-run organization, with skaters, officials, and volunteers working together to organize games, and events within the Penticton and South Okanagan communities,” reads a press release.
