The Penticton Vees have traded Jack Bakker to the Sherwood Park Crusaders in exchange for future considerations ahead of Saturday’s BCHL Trade Deadline.

Bakker, 16, appeared in 20 games for the Vees in 2023-2024 and registered six penalty minutes.

“This move will give Jack a fresh start and a better opportunity to play,” said Fred Harbinson, the team’s president, general manager and head coach.

The forward played at the Delta Hockey Academy before joining Penticton this past fall, and suited up for Team BC at the 2023 Canada Games. He now joins Sherwood Park, one of the five teams who left the Alberta Junior Hockey League to join the BCHL earlier this month.

Harbinson says the Bakker deal is the Vees’ final move before the trade deadline.

“This move finalizes our roster prior to the deadline tomorrow,” the team’s longtime bench boss added on Friday. “We are proud that we have had the least amount of trades in the BCHL in each of the last three seasons, and look forward to a strong finish from this group.”

Penticton (27-7-2-2) sits in first place in the Interior Conference, three points clear of the second-place West Kelowna Warriors (24-8-7-0).

The Vees host the last-place Prince George Spruce Kings (13-22-3-0) on Saturday night, Feb. 10, at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
