In an effort to flee from police, a woman ran into Okanagan Lake at a Summerland campground on Thursday around noon.
The incident, at Summerland Beach R.V. Park and Campground, occurred late in the morning when a woman was seen in the parking lot and then at the campsites. Witnesses said she was looking for food.
Jeannine Hudson, staying at the campground, noticed the woman at the campsites. Hudson offered the woman some food and water, and called for help.
Police received the call at 11:50 a.m. When they arrived, the woman ran into Okanagan Lake, where she swam out to a houseboat away from the shore.
“When she saw the police, she took off,” said Cst. Jacques Lefebvre of the Summerland RCMP detachment.
The woman was later apprehended and was taken to hospital, where she will be assessed.
