It’s a busy early March weekend in Penticton, as the official start of spring inches closer.

Here’s what’s happening from March 8 to 10:

CSSHL Western Championships (March 8 to 10)

Student-athlete-based teams from across North America are in Penticton for the 2024 Canadian Sport School Hockey League Western Championships this weekend.

Athletes are aged 13 to 18.

Tickets can be purchased as day passes at valleyfirsttix.com, or the SOEC box office.

The Penticton-based Okanagan Hockey Academy will have multiple teams vying for first place in their respective divisions.

The tournament runs until March 17.

Penticton Home and Reno Show (March 9 to 10)

The 28th annual Penticton Home and Reno Show comes to the city on Saturday and Sunday.

Home building, decorating, and renovating products will be among what’s on display at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

On Saturday, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The doors on Sunday will be open from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and feature a pancake breakfast in support of the South Okanagan Women in Need Society.

Admission is $5 cash at the door.

Morning coffee with Pierre Poilievre (March 9)

Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative Party of Canada Leader, will be at the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre on Saturday morning.

Marking his third visit to the South Okanagan in the last 12 months, Poilievre will be chatting with seniors over some coffee starting at 9 a.m.

To attend, people can register at the Conservative Party of Canada’s website.

Penticton Vees return home (March 9)

The Penticton Vees are back on home ice at the South Okanagan Events Centre ice for the first time in March on Saturday night.

Welcoming the Merritt Centennials, the first-place Vees will look to extend their winning streak to five games.

Puck drop is at 6 p.m.

South Okanagan theatre students present Beauty and the Beast (March 8 to 9)

Southern Okanagan Secondary School students present Beauty and the Beast at Venables Theatre on Friday and Saturday.

The SOSS musical cast and crew bring the show to theatre on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, at both 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

‘Foolish Pairings’ fundraiser in Penticton (March 10)

Wine meets junk food on Sunday when the ‘Foolish Pairings’ fundraiser comes to Okanagan College, in support of the OSNS Child and Youth Development Centre.

The event runs from 3 to 6 p.m. inside the college’s Centre of Excellence Community Hall and all proceeds will go back to support kids across the region.
