Two wineries in Summerland have been nominated for building awards.

The two wineries, Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards and 8th Generation Winery are among 37 finalists in the ninth annual Thompson Okanagan Kootenay Commercial Building Awards.

The awards are coordinated by Business Examiner and Black Press is a media sponsor for the event.

The awards are presented to the best commercial and industrial buildings in the area. Construction must have been completed by July 31.

Mark MacDonald, president of Business Examiner, said close to 100 entries were submitted for the awards.

Of the 37 finalists, roughly half will receive awards.

“It always comes down to the design work,” he said of the awards.

The 8th Generation wine shop, off Highway 97, is an old house which was converted to serve as the new wine shop.

“It’s a brilliant piece of work,” MacDonald said of the project.

The new building at Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards, at Greata Ranch north of Summerland, was completed earlier this year, when the new winery was opened.

MacDonald described the winery building as a beautiful and spectacular building.

The awards will be presented on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Manteo Resort in Kelowna.
