Winter arts workshops offered

Arts and entertainment events in Summerland and the surrounding area.

Don’t forget the Winter Workshops being offered by the Summerland Community Arts Council.

This Saturday is Getting the Most Out of Your Camera with Jeremy Heibert; followed by Jewelry Making with Karen Griggs of Madam Jewels and the Bead Trails on Feb. 25.   Barbara Pistak will present Introduction to Acrylics on March 3 and Barbara Wellborn leads a workshop Unwoven Scarves on March 10.

Philosophers’ Café evenings

The first Philosophers’ Café evening of 2012 will be Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Summerland Art Gallery.

Join Allison Rennie, former Director of Leadership Development at Naramata Centre and a masters student in Creative Writing as she speaks about Writing from the Heart – the Artful Practice of Creative Writing.

Theatre camp

The Silver Shoes Theatre Camp is a one-week Fine Arts Camp being offered during spring break for students in Grades 4 to 7 (ages nine to 12.) Come express, explore and create.  Participants will play games, make masks and create characters.

Instructors are Claire Tamang and Emily Spencer, both B.C. certified teachers.

Art exhibit

Double Vision, an exhibition of artworks and photography featuring works by George Traicheff and Megan Traicheff opens this Saturday, Feb. 18, with a reception from noon to 3 p.m. and continues until March 10 at the Osoyoos Art Gallery,  8713 Main St., Osoyoos.

Live music

Encore 2012: The Vibe and Jive of Live Music, a music extravaganza starring the students of the KSS music program with special guests Robert Fine and the Night Owl Community Orchestra will be held Feb. 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

Symphony sounds

The Youth Symphony of the Okanagan performs Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Cleland Theatre, 325 Power St., Penticton.

Featured soloists this year will be Vincent Li and Rebecca Ruthven, both violinists with the YSO.

Music repertoire includes works by Morawetz, Sarasate, Grieg, Chausson, and Beethoven.

In concert

Kelowna Community Concerts presents Jan Lisiecki, pianist, at the Kelowna Community Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
