The Summerland Dance Club arranges dances with live bands once a month from October until May at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall on Rosedale Avenue.
The fellowship, food and prizes complete the enjoyment of the evening for each couple.
This social group has a long history in the community, continuing since 1953.
Initially the event was so popular the organizers had to create a waiting list, capping the membership at 40 couples. In fact, for years the group was called The 40 Club.
Later, they moved to the Youth Centre on Giant’s Head Road.
The centre was demolished and replaced by the Harold Simpson Youth Centre and the dance floor was not suitable, so the IOOF Hall was used instead.
More recently, the circle was completed as they moved back to the Legion.
Couples who enjoy dancing (jive, fox trot, waltz, polka or South American beats) as well as fellowship, prizes and food are invited to join.
The Summerland Dance Club will hold its first dance on Oct. 15.
