Accommodations needed for Shakespeare participants

In just a few short months Summerland will once again play host to the Good Will Shakespeare Festival.

From May 11 through 14, more than 400 students from as far away as Smithers will take part in workshops led by professional artists.

Each group brings their own show to Centre Stage, so the nights are filled with entertainment.

For 10 years this festival has changed the lives its participants, with many returning after their graduation as volunteers just to experience the energy of the event.

The open hearts and doors of the people of Summerland have long been a key to the success of the festival.

In order to make the festival accessible for any student who wants to participate, students from outside the area have been billeted in the homes of local residents.  Once again we are asking you to show your support for the arts by opening your door to these amazing young people.

Billets typically take in two or three students.

As the festival runs from early in the morning to late at night and is filled with activity, the most important thing is that the students have somewhere to get a good night’s sleep.  Billets are also asked to provide one meal for the students.

An extra sofa or simply a space on the floor for a few sleeping bags to be rolled out would mean so much.  In the past, due to shortages, some billets have taken up to six students.  Although this sounds like a great party, we would actually prefer to spread them out by enlisting more homes.
