It’s set to be large-scale, dynamic and even a little complicated.

Rest assured, though, Penticton Secondary’s drama students will be up for the challenge when they take the stage for ‘Chicago, High School Edition.’

That’s according to Andrew Knudsen, the teacher of those who will perform the musical at Cleland Theatre from June 20 to 23.

“I genuinely believe that this certainly has the potential to be the best show that we have produced in my entire tenure as the play director at Penticton Secondary,” said Knudsen, who come late June will be directing his 10th year-end play at Pen High.

The musical is set in the “Roaring 20s” in Chicago. It was first performed on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre in New York City in 1975.

“It’s a classic,” Knudsen said. “It’s a story of the obsession of fame in the 1920s and it’s a Broadway-style show, meaning it’s not a linear story…there will be lots of variety.”

Knudsen, who watched the play himself on Broadway last summer, says more than 45 Pen High students will be involved in making the high school edition of the show come to life.

Students will take to the Cleland Theatre stage from June 20 to 23, with a showtime of 7 p.m., and additionally on June 22 and 23 at 1 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased on the Penticton Secondary website.
