A Summerland church will hold a special service for those who are grieving during the holiday season.
“Not everyone feels merry and bright at Christmas,” said Armand Houle, minister of Summerland United Church. “This is especially true if they are grieving the death of a family member or friend.”
Summerland has had services of this nature in the past. Last year, the United Church held its first Blue Christmas Service and previously, one of the funeral homes in the community would hold an annual service in December.
Houle said the service will be 30 to 40 minutes in length, followed by a time of refreshments.
It is an opportunity for people to acknowledge the losses they have experienced.
“The service will be simple as we acknowledge our sadness and light candles in memory, hope and healing,” Houle said.
The service will be held at Summerland United Church on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.
