George Takataro Tada, Summerland’s first Japanese citizen, came to Summerland in 1907.
Tada was considered the leader of the Japanese community in Summerland; and he and his wife, Sugae, eventually raised three children here: Fumi, Miwa, and Ichiro.
This early photo of George was taken around the turn of the 20th century — a time when pictures were still modelled on painted portraits.
