A fundraiser for the Summerland Food Bank raised $2,900 and 78 kilograms of food.
The fundraiser was held at the Summerland IGA on Saturday, Sept. 17. People were encouraged to come out and support the food bank by purchasing pre-made food donations, donating individual items or purchasing a barbecue lunch.

This event was held in partnership with Summerland IGA, a loyal supporter of the food bank for many years. Through IGA’s Customer Purchase grocery program, they have been able to donate 6,720 kilograms of food since 2016.
Owner Colin Powell helped set up and organize the Food Drive and run the barbecue, which brought in more than $900 in proceeds.
The Summerland Steam Junior B hockey team volunteered their time at the barbecue and packing groceries. Maureen Oswald, who manages the food bank’s volunteer base and event staffing and Kyle Anderson, who provided entertainment were among the many event volunteers.
