The Summerland Fall Fair will offer a number of free events for children this year.

The fair will be held Friday, Sept. 7 on Main Street and Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Curling Rink.

At the Friday Night Street Festival, Red Barn Ranch will offer horse rides.

Gwen Shaw, owner of Red Barn Ranch, said the rides will be on kind and gentle horses.

The rides will be offered in Memorial Park and are part of the Children on the Farm Fun Space.

The children’s activities also include face painting, an ATV train ride and the Kripps Zucchini Bobsleigh Race.

On Saturday, the fair will offer a petting zoo by Buddy’s Buddies, a kids’ arts and crafts tent run by the Summerland Art Gallery, face painting, wagon rides, pet exhibits and food exhibits by children.

Janine Sentes, owner of Buddy’s Buddies petting zoo, said she is looking forward to being part of the fair this year.

The wagon rides, by Harvelle’s Wagon Rides, will be held in the downtown area from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kids can also see the Tree Fruit Art Project, where 165 children from local schools created pictures of agriculture.

The pictures are displayed on three large wooden trees, made by John Topham.

The fair will also feature the Grade 5 Gardening Project, where children can win prizes by growing a garden.

The Friday events will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Main Street.

The Saturday events will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Summerland Curling Rink.
