$100 CHALLENGE Summerland Secondary School students Ariana Planiden, left, Rachel Shanner, Ethan Freistandt and Aliya Van Bergeyk will hold a fundraiser later this month. The initiative is under the $100 Challenge through the Summerland Rotary Club.

A team of four Summerland Secondary Students will hold a car wash later this month to raise money for two charities.

Ariana Planiden, Ethan Freistadt, Rachel Shanner and Aliya Van Bergeyk are participating in the Summerland Rotary Club’s $100 challenge.

The challenge gives students $100 to use for a fundraising initiative.

The four students had chosen to hold a car wash event, but they did not have a charity in mind.

They put the call out to organizations in the area and received responses from 10 groups.

The charities they selected are the Summerland Music Camp and the South Okanagan Similkameen Mental Wellness Society.

The music camp, a local organization, appealed since they wanted to raise money for use within the community.

While the mental wellness society is based in Penticton, the money raised will go to an initiative in Summerland.

“The opportunity to help two charities was a big plus for us,” said Freistadt.

The car wash will be held Saturday, May 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Shell station.

In addition, the four students will also cook meals for Rotary members during an upcoming Rotary training day.
