Storytellers gather to tell tales

Storytellers will gather for a storytelling night at the Summerland Arts Centre later this month.

Five Minute Stories, on Saturday, Feb. 25, will feature 10 storytellers from Summerland and other Okanagan communities.

Sophia Jackson, organizer of the event, said stories are a good way for people to reconnect.

“A good story can enliven our imaginations, improve our ability to empathize with and understand each other and even unlock ideas or memories of our own stories that long to be told,” she said.

Jackson was inspired to host the event after joining The Raven, a local storytelling group started by Alison Moore of Peachland.

Moore will be one of the storytellers. Others include Don Gayton, Denise Howie, actor Dick Clements, Erick Thompson of ET2media, musician Tavis Weir, Raven storytellers Kim Stansfield and Heather Jackson and Rawle James of Kelowna’s Inspired Café.

The event begins at 7 p.m. in the upstairs of the Summerland Community Arts Centre on Wharton Street.
