A collection of photos, organized by the Summerland Fall Fair Society and Summerland Museum and Archives, is on display and can be viewed online or in a book.

In 2021, the fall fair society and the museum and archives invited Summerland residents to submit photos and captions showing off things they had grown, sewn, baked, built, crafted or otherwise brought into creation during the pandemic.

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Summerland Fall Fair was scaled down. Farm produce and other displays were set up outside for one day in late September, but the traditional events and displays did not proceed.

The photo project came about in response to these restrictions.

“The project is an attempt to capture this interesting moment in our history, to show Summerlanders who we are (and how interesting we are) and to build community by celebrating our accomplishments, which is something that the Fall Fair has always strived to do,” Katie Sardinha, organizer of the photo project said at the time.

The submissions can now be viewed online at https://www.summerlandfallfair.ca. The photos and captions were also compiled and published as a book documenting this moment in our town’s history, together with an introduction and short history of the Summerland Fall Fair. Copies of the book can be viewed by visiting the Summerland Museum, Summerland Art Gallery and Summerland branch of the Okanagan Regional Library.

For anyone wishing to own a copy of the book, the Summerland Fall Fair Society will be taking orders for printed copies up until May 1. Books are $30 each and can be purchased by sending a cheque to the Summerland Fall Fair Society, Box 1217, Summerland, BC, V0H 1Z0, along with a name and contact information. Email summerlandfallfair@gmail.com with any questions.
