Last Friday wasn’t just an ordinary night at the Tin Whistle Brewing Company. Instead, it turned into an event that raised enough money to feed kids across the community.
The brewery, located in the historic Cannery Trade Centre, offered to donate $5 from every beer sold Friday going directly to filling backpacks with food for kids in need in Penticton.
A whopping $1,071.65 was raised throughout the evening going directly to Penticton Starfish backpack program.
In the five-hour span of the fundraiser, 147 glasses of beer were sold, with all the proceeds going back to feeding kids.
In addition to the beer sales last Friday, the brewery received an extra $336.65 in donations.
According to Starfish, $675 can feed a child in Penticton for each weekend of the school year.

With locations all across B.C., the organization has its eyes set on making a difference this holiday season.
“When you are out Christmas shopping this season, please remember to support these businesses who rally behind programs like Starfish,” Starfish Penticton said in a Facebook post after Tin Whistle Brewing Company’s successful night of fundraising.
Several local businesses in the Okanagan have partnered with Starfish and right now, the organization urges people to support the Rotary Club of Penticton and Penticton Speedway Foundation if they are interested in helping kids throughout the school year.
