An event that has been in the planning stage since 2013 is finally happening.

The Naramata Garden Club and Friends of Summerland Ornamental Gardens are co-hosting a tour of private Naramata gardens on June 18.

Visitors will have an opportunity to explore eight gardens in the scenic community, talk with some of the property owners and professional designers, and seek advice from master gardeners. In addition, members of the Naramata Art Studio and FCA-SOS will be in the gardens, painting en plein air.

And when the feet get tired, ticket-holders can enjoy food and beverages at a discount in selected venues.

When Friends of the Gardens presented garden tours in Summerland and Penticton in 2013 and 2015, the plan was to complete the trilogy with a tour in Naramata. The pandemic and other challenges intervened, but the time has come.

“We’re excited about the potential to collaborate with our fellow gardeners across the lake,” said Myrna Elliott, president of the Naramata Garden Club.

Members have been hard at work connecting with garden owners, the Master Gardener program, artists and other supporters, and the self-guided tour will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 18.

The $25 tickets go on sale at Eventbrite on May 16, and ticket purchasers may then download a map and guide to the tour. To ensure an enjoyable visit, members of both organizations will be hosting, and only 150 tickets will be sold.
