The York and the Kelowna were two of the early day freighters on Lake Okanagan.
Goods were shipped to Penticton, but in many of the small communities lining the Lake, there were few, if any, connecting roads. This meant goods had to be transported by boat to their destinations.
The stacks of piling along the beach were used to construct dock and wharves.
