Applications are open once more for the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen’s Neighbourhood Small Grants program.
Each grant of $500 helps to put ideas from anyone in the community into reality, and in 2021 the 63 grants were used to host movie nights, organize scavenger hunts, plan an interactive seminar to re-think waste disposal, deliver care packages to those negatively affected by the pandemic and more.
In Keremeos, previous projects that received funding through the Neighbourhood Small Grants program included a mural painted by local artist Madeline Terbasket and the Keremeos Community Garden.

The City of Penticton saw a total of 22 projects that received funding in 2021, which were used to host outdoor movie ngihts at Glen Place, a winter part at the Carmi Trails and even sidewalk star gazing nights organized by local astronomer Dr. Trey Wenger.
People with a great idea to strengthen connections can apply at www.cfso.net until May 16. These grants are not available for businesses, charities or formal groups and are intended to help build grassroot community connections.
“In a year where so many of our local citizens experienced hardships and all of us saw divisive topics driving wedges between our relationships, we’re hoping this program will start bringing neighbours together through their common desire to make the world a better place. A small grant has the potential to be a beautiful start to something huge,” said Kim English, the regional development manager for CFSOS.
This year the Community Foundation has $20,000 to give away. Everyone is encouraged to apply and bring their ideas to life.
