A family picnic was a popular outing in the early 1900s and in Summerland, Trout Creek was one of the favourite picnic sites.

In this 1905 photo, three families, the Robinson, Brown and Logie families, along with Ken Hogg and Anderson Starke, are enjoying a day in the outdoors.
