A local merchant has proven that you can make a big difference in little time as he is saying his good-byes and thank-yous.

Mandeep Dosanjh is leaving Summerland after eight months of running the Mac’s Convenience Store of Rosedale Ave to take over a new store in Kelowna. While such a move might otherwise not necessarily deserve public attention, Dosanjh has used his limited tenure in Summerland to support various community causes, most recently by donating to the Relay for Life cancer fundraiser.

Dosanjh, a native of Castlegar, says he has enjoyed all aspects of  his community involvements in Summerland in thanking various community organization, his staff and his wife Nindy for their respective support and commitment.

While Dosanjh will take up in residence in Kelowna as part of his new position, he has promised to return to Summerland when called upon.

“If anybody in Summerland needs a hand, I will be here in a heartbeat,” he said.

Such a commitment has not gone unnoticed. Mayor Janice Perrino Thursday personally thanked Dosanjh during a surprise appearance at the store where she presented him with a certificate.

Its inscription perhaps offers the best summary of his Dosanjh’s accomplishments.

“Summerland is a better community because of you.”
