Wright and Martin to play softball at B.C. Summer Games

When the Zone 2 softball team competes at the B.C. Summer Games later this month, the lineup will include two Summerland players.

When the Zone 2 softball team competes at the B.C. Summer Games in Abbotsford later this month, the lineup will include two Summerland players.

Emily Wright and Marlayna Martin were among the 16 girls chosen from the more than 50 who tried out.

The two play for the Summerland Scorch U16 team.

The team won silver at the 2016 provincial championships in Cranbrook over the Canada Day long weekend.

Wright has played for Summerland Minor Fastball over the past nine years.

She is primarily a pitcher, who also can cover first base.

She has also played for other Okanagan teams, including the Cawston Kobau Koyotes U18B team during their provincial championships in Sicamous.

Martin has been part of Summerland Minor Fastball for the past eight years.

She plays as a catcher, but has also served as a utility player, for all other positions except pitcher.

She was part of the 2015 Canada Futures team. The team toured Georgia and Alabama. facing junior college teams.

Wright and Martin are coached by Mike Wright, Dave Martin, Rachelle Blanchard, Gene Stafford and Kevin Willier.
