Despite no snow yet on the ground in Vernon, SilverStar Mountain Resort will be opening up this Friday, Nov. 24.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails will be open, while the alpine track for slalom skiing and snowboarding is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30.

Over 15 kilometres of nordic trials and 14 km’s of snowshoe trails will be open for intermediate and advanced skiers, with select trails having set tracks.

“It’s nice to see some snow and allow guests to come up and enjoy some winter,” said Ian Jenkins, director of sales and marketing. “Although Mother Nature has not given us all the snow we asked for, we will be open for the season starting Friday.”

The opening will also coincide with the opening of many of the mountain businesses.

“The village restaurants will be open daily, along with the ticket office, and our retail store, Evolve,” Jenkins said. “Come on up, check out all the snow, have lunch, pick up your season pass, go for a nordic ski or simply enjoy the winter sun. You can also check out the latest in retail or get your skis/board tuned and ready for alpine opening if you have not already.”

Nordic and snowshoe trails are tabbed to open at 8:30 a.m.

The Sovereign Lake Nordic Club, which operates on Silver Star Mountain, has been open since Wednesday, Nov. 15, with hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
