Vees open B.C. Hockey League season in Merritt

B.C. Hockey League season opens on Sept. 8, league championship rematch set for Showcase weekend

The B.C. Hockey League champs Penticton Vees open the season with the rest of the league on Sept. 8 to kick off the 56th season. The Vees will visit the Merritt Centennials at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

A rematch of last years BCHL championship between the Vees and Chilliwack Chiefs will take place at Prospera Centre during the Bauer BCHL Showcase on Sept. 23.

The Vees home-opener at the South Okanagan Events Centre will be Sept. 29 against the West Kelowna Warriors. The Vees and Vernon Vipers will clash for the first time on Oct. 6 at the SOEC. Their first meeting against new divisional opponent the Wenatchee Wild is on the road Oct. 21 at the Town Toyota Center. The teams meet again four days later at the SOEC on Oct. 25.

In December, the Vees will host the Nanaimo Clippers on Dec.16 then take a break for Christmas before returning to action with back-to-back games in Wenatchee against the Wild on Dec.29 and 30.

The Vees close out the regular season at home Feb. 24 against the Wild and Feb. 25 against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

The BCHL’s opening night has seven games on slate. The league will complete two weeks of regular-season games before the Bauer BCHL Showcase which begins Sept. 20 in Chilliwack.

Each team will play 58 games again this season with two of those contests taking place at the Showcase. The last day of the regular season will be Sunday, February 25 and the Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs will be on the following Friday, March 2.
