Teams from two provinces at Summerland fastball tourney

Summerland hosted a girls’ fastball tournament at Dale Meadows Ball Fields on May 5 and 6.

Seven U12 teams and 10 U16 teams, from Port Coquitlam, Sherwood Park, Kelowna, West Kelowna, West Kootenay, North Surrey along with two Summerland teams participated.

The U16 Summerland Swarm, played with ambition and had a great time. Hannah Wright, Cassidy McCullough, Erin Gabriel and Cassandra Kruger were each named player of the game.

The U12 Summerland Squirtguns had three players of the game awarded to Raina Whitfield, Jenayah Lefebvre and Caprice Foulon. The Kelowna Storm won the U12 silver medal while Poco2 won gold.

In the U16 category, the silver went to West Kelowna and the gold went to Sherwood Park. Organizers of the tournament included Bob and Carol Van Balkom, Cindy and Tom Nelson, Brad Smith, Joe Cutt, the Penticton Umpire Association and the Summerland U19 and Summerland U12 teams for lining and raking the fields all weekend.

On May 12 to 13, the Summerland U14 and U19 will take to the fields.
