Summerland Steam tie playoff series with overtime win

It was a close hockey game on Wednesday evening as the Summerland Steam defeated the Osoyoos Coyotes 5-4 in overtime.

It was a close hockey game on Wednesday evening as the Summerland Steam defeated the Osoyoos Coyotes 5-4 in overtime.

The game is the fourth in the division finals for the two Kootenay International Junior Hockey League teams.

Going into the series, the Coyotes were ranked first in the league’s Okanagan/Shuswap Conference: Osoyoos Division while the Steam finished second in the division.

In the first period, Ranier Glimpel of Osoyoos scored on a power play at 16:50, assisted by Bobby LaRue.

The Steam tied the game at 13:44 with a power play goal by Calvin Hadley. Keenan Scott and Riley Pettitt had the assists.

Summerland surged ahead at 12:33 with a goal by Braden Eliuk, assisted by Jack Mills and Paulsen Lautard.

A power play goal by the Coyotes at 6:49 tied the game. The goal was scored by Reid Wilson, with assists by Carter Shannon and Daneil Stone.

Just seconds into the second period, the Steam regained their lead with a goal by Pettitt. The goal came at 19:48 and was assisted by Wyatt Gale and Jarrett Malchow.

Osoyoos responded with a goal at 14:28, tying the game. The goal was socred by Hunter Johnson, assisted by Steele Anderson.

The Coyotes regained their lead at 11:18 in the third period with a power play goal by Cody Allen, assisted by Ryan Morrell and Glimpel.

At 4:30, Adam Jones of the Steam tied the game, assisted by Scott Robinson and Braden Eliuk.

The deciding goal came at .46 in overtime when Mills scored for the Steam. Eliuk and Lautard assisted.

The best of seven series is now tied at two games each.

The Steam and the Coyotes will face each other in Osoyoos on Saturday, March 12 beginning at 8:35 p.m.

On Sunday, March 13, they will play in Summerland beginning at 6:30 p.m.

If necessary, the seventh game of the series will be in Osoyoos on Monday, March 14, beginning at 7:35 p.m.
