Organizers of the Summerland Steam Junior B hockey team are preparing for the upcoming season, beginning with a training camp on the weekend of Aug. 25 and 26.

Mike Rigby, general manager of the team, said the staff is in place for this coming hockey season.

John DePourcq will return for his sixth season as head coach of the team.

He will be assisted by Carter Rigby and Tim Mills.

The team has a new therapist and trainer, Steve Sasyniuk, who will be joining Josh DaCosta, who is returning in his role.

Cole Buckley will be the team’s goaltending coach.

Josh Jenkinson will be the team’s equipment and dressing room manager.

The team’s first game this season will be against the Kelowna Chiefs on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Summerland Arena.

“Kelowna’s going to be very, very strong this year,” Rigby said, adding that the new coach of the Chiefs has worked with the Osoyoos Coyotes in past years, bringing that team to strong performances in the regular season and in the playoffs.

While the Steam’s coaching team is in place for the season, the player roster has not yet been set.

Rigby said some new Summerland Junior B players are expected to sign with the team shortly.
