Summerland skaters excel at Okanagan Region Championships

Skaters had strong clean programs, personal bests, podium finishes, and close call podium finishes.

It was good weekend for the skaters of Summerland Skating Club as skaters competed at the 2019 Okanagan Region Championships in Penticton landing Summerland some strong clean programs, personal bests, podium finishes, and close call podium finishes.

Those who watched the competition may have also seen the team mascot, Pam the Summerland Sloth.

Results:

Star 1: Amara MacKinley, Gold; Shelby McAfee, Gold.

Star 2: Yuzuki Onishi, Bronze.

Star 6: Keelyn Mitchell, fourth (20.86 PB); Kaylee Fortunato, fifth (20.47 PB); Cyan Nickel, 14th (13.02).

Star 7: Kaylee Fortunato, fourth (15.56 PB); Keelyn Mitchell, sixth (14.54 PB).

Star 6 Elements: Kaylee Fortunato, fourth.

Open Elements: Keelyn Mitchell, sixth.

Amara MacKinley and Shelby McAfee received their first golds this season, McAfee was in her first ever competition with the Summerland Skating Club.

Kaylee Fortunato and Keelyn Mitchell set all new personal bests as well as clean program runs.
