Joshua Fitzpatrick is in Kingston, Ont. this week at the National Sea Cadet Regatta, along with his skipper Ilya Sharikov of Victoria.

At the beginning of April, the two finished in first place at the annual National Qualifying Regatta in Victoria.

Fitzpatrick said there are around 50 boats at the national competition, and the competition is tough.

Fitzpatrick, 18, has been sailing since he was 12, after he an competing d his brother were introduced to the sport.

“It’s a thrill. It’s such a competitive sport,” he says.

“There are so many things you have to be aware of on the course.”

Fitzpatrick has sailed with the Kelowna Yacht Club and is looking to continue in his sport in the future.

“I want to compete at higher levels, even the Olympics,” he said.
