Minor hockey teams from Summerland had a busy weekend on Jan. 7 and 9.

On Saturday, Jan. 7, the U11 Summerland Jets faced the Kelowna West Six.

The Jets’ coaching staff put Blake Shewchuk in net and he had a great game, stopping numerous shots and breakaways.

With some trepidation, the coaches put veteran goaltender Atticus Skinner, on left wing. Skinner fooled everybody, scoring three goals. And yes, after each goal, he did a dance.

The star of the game was Ben Schelter. Each game this year he has improved and in this game, Schelter dominated.

Callan Hantelmann was the best forechecker of the game.

The MVP, and golden jersey winner was Schelter. The three stars were ‘Crusher’ Harbinson, Maria Jonson and Oliver Nichol.

Summerland’s youngest team, the U7 Jets, hosted Penticton on Saturday.

In net for Summerland was Emma Clark and for Penticton, Tucker Wood. Both goalies played well.

The big story of this game was the play of Malia Cox. She was all over the ice, forechecking and getting the hat trick.

Strangely, no hats were thrown on the ice.

She was easily selected the game’s MVP.

The three stars were Nathan Smirle, Sam Bullen and Loftlin Ward. Honourable mention must go to Grayson Giddings and Sawyer Koldyk.

Summerland’s U9 squad travelled to the McLaren Rink to challenge Penticton’s U9 team.

Once again, the Jets had veteran goaltender Broxton Haas in nets. Haas made some great saves including a spectacular glove save.

It was Brodie Marsh’s night. His speed was always a threat for Penticton, scoring goals including a behind the net goal when he bounced the puck off the goalie into the net.

Another player with a great game was Gabriel Boucher. He saved a goal when he slid across Summerland’s open net and stopped the puck.

The MVP was Marsh. The three stars were Corban Gay, Berkley Schenn and Boucher.

On Sunday, Jan. 8, Summerland hosted two games at the Summerland Arena.

In the first game, the U9 Jets faced the Red Devils from the South Okanagan.

In net for Summerland was Owen Webster, who kept the Jets in the game with great saves.

Corban Gay and Bryce Hotson scored goals. Summerland got some great forechecking from speedy Gibson Langlois Boucher and Berkly Schenn.

The MVP of the game was goaltender Owen Webster.

The three stars were Schenn, Ethan Roach and Keegan Judd

The second game was the U9 Jets against Penticton’s Black Panthers.

Penticton had some of their best players: MacKeekin, Flex Dawson and goaltender Liam Sydner.

Summerland had goaltender Josh Cardiff between the pipes.

Summerland played defensive hockey using two defensive lines: Kaylie Vancha and her defensive partner Keira Zrai and Glen Wu and his best friend Scottie Gillespie.

Two Summerland goals were especially good. Keira Zrai made a perfect pass to Nolan Barker for one goal and then Barker made a perfect pass to Marsh who roofed the puck pass Penticton’s Synder. No goalie could have stopped that shot.

The MVP was Everett Mix.

The three stars were Stryker Safan, Koen McGillis and Zrai.
