Summerland golfters compete in provincial tournament

Summerland Ladies Club

On July 12, the Summerland Golf and Country Ladies Club members participated in the annual provincial tournament held to commemorate Dorothy Olive Franklin who gave many years to ladies golf both at the provincial and national levels.

Proceeds from this tournamentare used to help send promising junior girls to out-of-province or international tournaments. The winner of the local competition is Maribel Rothfield.

A low gross/low net competition was held in conjunction with this tournament.

First flight: First low gross Belinda Daniel, 89 (countback); second low gross Alison Coutts, 89; first low net Carol Mulligan, 76 (countback); second low net Vijai Vaagen, 76.

Second flight: First low gross Vi Ward, 102; second low gross Janis Goll, 103; first low net Maribel Rothfield, 74 (countback); second low net Diana Leitch, 74.

Sumnmerland Senior Men

On July 14, the Summerland Senior Men’s Club format was a team event playing waltz time counting 1-2-3 net scores per hole.

Results: First Dave Carleton, Ted Gamracy, David Handy and Dave Overgaard, 92; second Glen Brennan, Chris Redman, Earl Edmondson and Frank Davie, 91; third Gene Benner, Rick Drewnisz, Andy Webster and Glenn Steinke, 91.

Four players shared the deuce pot, Rick Drewnisz and Dwain Sandrelli scoring singles, Frank Davie had a pair and Michel Perrault scoring three.
