Steam add two hockey wins

Summerland Junior B team remains in first place in division

The Summerland Steam added a pair of wins in recent Junior B hockey action.

On Oct. 17, the Steam defeated the North Okanagan Knights in a 5-4 overtime decision.

The game was at the Summerland Arena.

Scoring began with a Steam goal at 6:35, when Scott Robinson scored, assisted by Simon Snyman and Cody Swan.

The Knights responded at 1:54 to tie the game.

In the second period, the Knights took the lead with a power play goal at 18:24.

Robinson scored for the Steam at 8:19 to tie tie game. Swan had the assist.

In the third period, the Knights regained the lead at 16:47 with a power play goal.

The Steam responded at 10:40 when Riley Smoler scored, assisted by Zackery Cooper and Blake Holowaty.

The Steam took the lead at 1:15 with a short handed goal, scored by Cairo Rogers and assisted by Sam Jones.

With five seconds remaining, the Knights scored to tie the game.

In the second overtime period, the deciding goal came at 1:27, when Jones scored for the Steam, assisted by Holowaty.

On Sunnday, the Steam travelled to Princeton, earning a 7-3 win over the Princeton Posse.

The Posse took the lead at 19:15 in the first period.

The Steam then responded with three goals.

At 10:31, Holoway scored, assisted by Robinson, to tie the game.

Liam McLaren added a goal at 5:33, assisted by Jones.

Gavin Lawrie scored at 1:28, with assists by Lucas Jirousek and Snyman.

In the second period, the Posse scored on a power play at 17:36.

The Steam responded at 7:16 when Rogers scored on a power play. Swan and Holowaty assisted.

In the third period, the Steam secured the lead with three goals.

Swan scored at 17:00, assisted by Robinson and Holowaty.

At 16:27, Holoway scored, with assists by Swan and Jones.

Holowaty then scored at 4:33, with the assist by Robinson.

The final goal of the game came when the Posse scored on a power play at 1:45.

The Steam remain in first place in the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference: Okanagan Division in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

The Steam have 11 wins and three losses in regular season play.
