Hockey players from around the world were in Summerland last week for the Summerland Steam’s main camp and a chance to play for the team.
“It was a huge success,” said Jonathan Bowman, general manager of the newly formed team.
Players from Texas, New Zealand, Alberta and British Columbia attended.
Bowman said several Summerland players have been signed to the team.
“About half the team will be from Summerland and Penticton,” he said.
Another six players from Summerland have been signed on as associate players who will practice with the team and may be on the ice during games when necessary.
From the 75 players who attended, two all-star teams were chosen and from these teams, the Steam roster has been selected.
The Junior B hockey team will begin its inagural season this month.
In addition, the Steam will have a presence at the Summerland Fall Fair on Sept. 10 and 11.
