The Vernon Pickleball Association is hosting its final tournament of the year, the Rally in the Valley, today (Friday) through Sunday, Sept. 29, at the complex on Okanagan Landing Road at Marshall Field.

The Vernon Pickleball Association’s (VPA) final tournament of 2024 is a dilly.

The Rally in the Valley starts today, Friday, and runs to Sunday, Sept. 29.

Two hundred and seventy-five competitors are registered in Women’s Doubles (Friday), Mixed Doubles (Saturday) and Men’s Doubles (Sunday), with games starting at 9 a.m. each day. The tournament is a competitive doubles round-robin tournament for skill levels 3.0 to 5.0 and is sanctioned by Pickleball Canada.

“This is our fifth and final tournament of the year and we are pleased to be welcoming players from around B.C, and particularly from the Okanagan," said tournament director Richard Chambers.

This tournament follows on the heels of the extremely successful Western Canadian Championships which saw more than 600 competitors in July, and prior to that, three, one-day tournaments for men, women and mixed teams in March, April, and May respectively.

Chambers also noted that, “the success of each the VPA tournaments is due to a strong organizing committee and hundreds of dedicated volunteers."

Pickleball Depot is the title sponsor of the tournament, and its owner is thrilled to have Rally in the Valley in "one of the finest indoor pickleball complexes in Canada."

"We love to see this state-of-the-art facility come to life with some of the best and brightest in pickleball, and encourage all the players who have supported us during our 12 years in the sport,” said Cara Arding.

Competitors and visitors to the National Bank Financial - Okanagan Wealth Advisors Pickleball Complex (OWA) will notice the newly opened Herrmann House facility, which has recently been completed by the VPA.

Herrmann House was the third, and final, phase of the VPA’s world-class complex, comprising of 2,000 square-feet of front reception, administration offices, washrooms and shoe-change area. The VPA is extremely proud of their members who contributed knowledge, skills and many hours of work in painting, tiling and stone-work, landscaping, interior design and managing the project.

"Vernon is very lucky to have such a fabulous year-round pickleball facility, not only for tournaments, but also to accommodate the ever increasing numbers of enthusiasts in the sport," said the association.
