The Penticton Vees booked their ticket to the second round of the B.C. Hockey League Playoffs on Thursday night, April 7, after cruising to a 5-1 victory against the Trail Smoke Eaters in the fifth game of the Interior Conference Quarterfinals.

First-period goals from Bradley Nadeau, Stefano Bottini and Casey McDonald put the Vees in front, aiding the team in taking take care of the Smoke Eaters in quick order.

Plenty of pressure and shots on the Smoke Eaters’ net early on indicated that Vees didn’t want the best-of-seven series to go on any longer.

Penticton closed out the series by winning four consecutive games after losing the first at the South Okanagan Events Centre on March 31.

After a pair of low-scoring affairs in Trail for the series’ third and fourth games, the Vees jumped ahead, forcing their playoff counterparts to play behind for the duration of the night.

The Vees outshot the Smoke Eaters 40-18 while staying perfect on the penalty kill in four tries.

Nadeau’s brother, Josh, and Brett Moravec scored the Vees’ fourth and fifth goals before Trail was able to break Kaeden Lane’s shutout bid at the 12:15 mark of the third period.

Penticton is the first team in the Interior Conference to advance to the playoffs’ second round.

It is unknown when the Vees will kick off the second round and who their opponent will be.
