Penticton Vees games at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) are about to get a lot busier.

The team announced on Wednesday morning (Feb. 16) that they will host 100 per cent capacity at the SOEC after the province lifted a number of COVID-19 restrictions on Tuesday, including removing capacity restrictions on indoor events.

It’s an announcement that comes in time for the Vees’ three-game home stretch this Family Day weekend.

Penticton will host the West Kelowna Warriors on Friday (Feb. 18), Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday and Cranbrook Bucks Sunday.

The lifted restrictions on capacity start at midnight, Feb. 16.

Fans in attendance are expected to follow all the health and safety requirements as set out by the province, the team added in a statement.

Capacity restrictions were previously lifted at Vees games on Dec. 3, before a surge in COVID-19 cases fueled by the Omicron variant disrupted event plans province-wide.

Before the Vees (30-6-0-2) return home, however, the team will hope to win a battle of first place in Salmon Arm (30-6-2-1) against the Silverbacks tonight.

The winner of the showdown will take sole control of first place in the B.C. Hockey League’s Interior Conference.

Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m., with streaming options available on BCHL TV.
