Peewee Jets finish with wins

The New Year has been good for the Kinsmen Peewee House Jets team.

The Jets started the New Year off with a couple of wins and went 4-1-1 over their last six games.

The team finished off the regular season over the weekend with two road games resulting in a win and a tie.

Early Saturday saw the team travel to Merritt. The Jets came out strong with seven goals in the first period on route to a 12-1 victory.

Dawson Hanfield, the rookie, scored his first goal of the season.

Adding to the scoring were Geoffrey Stathers with four, Linden Gove with three, Kade Kozak, Ben Lusted, and Jacob Cerutti.

The team had some great passes throughout the game. Assisting on the goals were Cory Berekoff with three, Sydney Sandrelli with three, Danny Grant, Kozak, Lusted, Dawson Handfield, Kyle Walker, Stathers and Brian Bonthoux.

The Jets kept the Merritt team in their zone for most of the game with the great defence work of Dawson Jenner, Bailey Johnson, Bonthoux, Teaghan Trewhitt, and Karter Wilms keeping the puck in at the blue line on many chip out attempts by Merritt.

Jared Breitkreuz was not busy in net but had to remain focused in net throughout the game with only the one goal getting past him.

Sunday found the team playing against a Penticton team that they lost to on their first game of the season.

Both teams came out strong and saw the Jets with the only goal of the first period by Coby Blystone.

The Jets found themselves up 3-0 with some great set up passes from Cory Berekoff to Stathers and Blystone.

Penticton fought back slowly to tie the game at three and then take the lead late into the third period.

Summerland kept up the pressure with Wilms tying the game with and end to end to play and a low shot from the outside circle to put the puck past the Penticton keeper.

Both teams had some late chances to take the lead but the game finished in a 4-4 tie.

As a warm up to the playoffs, the team is heading to a tournament in Enderby Jan. 28 to 30.
