Two local softball teams will represent Penticton on the provincial stage this Canada Day weekend after capturing division titles in dramatic fashion from June 18 to 19.

The Penticton Power U15 and U20 squads will both play at the upcoming provincial championships, set to be hosted by Kelowna and North Vancouver this weekend, respectively.

“We are incredibly proud of both our Penticton Power teams who qualified for provincials,” said Kenna Green, the president of Penticton Minor Fastball. “The hard work and dedication the athletes and coaches and families have shown is amazing.”

Making it to the Kelowna-hosted provincials for the U20s didn’t seem very likely during the team’s final game. After trailing by a score of 10-0 to their Vernon counterparts, Penticton rallied back in the middle innings to secure an 11-10 comeback victory and book their tickets to the next stage.

Penticton’s U15 team, meanwhile, will battle for provincial glory in North Vancouver this Canada Day weekend.

According to each of the U15 and U20 coaches, approximately 16 teams across the province will represent each age group at the upcoming championships.
