Oliver hosts Desert Showdown hockey tournament

The town of Oliver recently hosted the annual Desert Showdown Minor Hockey Tournament.

Summerland’s U11 White team was one of 12 teams who participated.

On Friday. Summerland faced Penticton and dominated the game.

Summerland had experienced goaltender Huxley Hartney in net. Summerland recently acquired Jade Peterson to the team and he played well throughout the tournament.

The Jets scored nine goals, with Tanner Dollevoet scoring. Dollevoet was easily selected as the winner of the offense MVP.

The next day, there were two games.

The first game was against Kelowna Cobras. Hartney was again in net for Summerland.

Both Ilo Bienz and Connor Serbon had a strong games on defense.

Summerland’s top scorer was Linden Siebert

The second game of the day was against the mighty Nelson Koyotes. Summerland was outshot, but goaltender Huxley kept the team in the game.

Speedster Evie Harding was unable to play in the first two games but joined the Summerland squad for these last two games.

Beinz had another one of his good games on the blue line and deserved the defensive MVP.

And with two games in a row, Siebert was awarded the offensive MVP.

The final game took place on Sunday. Jets goaltender Hartney could not make the game. For the first time, Derek Schramm was the goaltender. He did a great job in net, making some fantastic saves.

Even more remarkable was the fact that Schramm had never been a goalie before.

Nicolai Jorgenson had his best game of the season. He played well both on defense and on the wing. Jorgenson was chosen as the defensive MVP.

Newly acquired Jade Peterson was acknowledged for her offensive play with some clever passing plays.

At the conclusion of the Desert Showdown tournament, the player with the most goals (18) and most assists (18) was Dollevoet.
