The Okanagan Hockey Group (OHG), one of the longest-running organizations of its type in the world, has signed a 10-year agreement with the City of Penticton and Spectra Venue Management.

The agreement, which received a unanimous endorsement from city council, includes an option for an additional 10 years.

As well as the ice agreements for the South Okanagan Events Centre, Okanagan Hockey Training Centre and Memorial Arena, the lease also covers office and gym facilities.

Headquartered in Penticton, OHG currently has offices in Edmonton, Alta. Whitby, Ont. Swindon, England and St. Polten, Austria.

“This is a longterm commitment of keeping OHG headquarters based in Penticton, which allows us to continue to grow our business within the community,” said OHG president Andy Oakes in a news release announcing the agreement. “This not only a commitment from OHG to the community but also from the City of Penticton to OHG as we work together along with Spectra in a true partnership.”

According to Penticton Mayor Andrew Jakubeit, the organization contributes greatly to the local community.

“This lease renewal ensures the continuance of non-prime time ice by utilized by OHG hockey academy students,” said Jakubeit in the release. “This allows growth to their business while equally benefiting the economic activities their operations bring to the city.”
