Midget Jets place fifth in tourney

The Nesters Market Midget House Jets played in a 16-team tournament Jan. 14 to 16 in Kelowna and placed fifth overall.

The team ended the tournament with three wins and one loss and missed going to the championship round by one goal.

In the first game the Jets played the Kelowna Predators with only seven skaters and seven must have been a lucky number as the Jets skated to a 7-3 win.

It was a game that featured incredible passing and puck control by the Jets.

Player of the game honours went to Brady Clark who earned a hat trick.

Game two was against Kamloops and was the Jets only loss by a score of 7-6. This was another solid team effort against a strong team that came up one goal short. Scott Hanon scored a beautiful goal while lying on the ice.

Player of the game was Kylar Stinson.

Game three was against Langley and the Jets needed a decisive win to give themselves a chance to move into the championship round.

The game started great with the Jets up 3-0 at the end of the first.

Then the wheels fell off and Langley got the game even at three late in the second before the Jets could restore their lead and end the second up by one at 4-3.

The third period saw the Jets add three more to Langley’s two and win 7-5.

Player of the game was Andy McAdam.

Unfortunately the second period breakdown caused the Jets to miss the championship round and finish second in their pool.

This led to the Sunday game against the second place team from the A pool.

They played the Penticton MVPs and this was a character game for the Jets as they were down 4-1 early in the third period but then battled back on goals 25 seconds apart and 18 seconds apart to win the game 5-4.

Player of the game was Gunnar Clark.
