It took seven games to determine the winner of the division semifinals between the Summerland Steam and the Kelowna Chiefs.

On Saturday evening, after a grueling playoff series, the Chiefs won the final game and will now advance to face the Osoyoos Coyotes in the division finals.

The best of seven series began Feb. 23, when the Steam defeated the Chiefs 5-4 at the Rutland Arena in Kelowna.

The following evening, at the same venue, the Chiefs earned a 5-4 win over the Steam.

On Feb. 26, the two teams faced off in Summerland, playing to a 2-1 overtime win for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs also earned a 5-0 victory over Summerland on Feb. 27.

On March 1, in Kelowna, the Steam secured a 4-2 win over the Chiefs and on March 2, the Steam scored a 4-2 win.

The final game, on Saturday evening, ended in a 3-0 win for Kelowna.

The two Junior B hockey teams were evenly matched throughout the regular season.

The Chiefs finished in second place, with a record of 27 wins, 15 losses, one tie and four overtime losses for a total of 59 points. The Steam had 27 wins, 16 losses, one tie and three overtime losses for 58 points.

Summerland had advanced to the division semifinals each year since the 2012-2013 season. The team has made it to the division finals three times and has played in the conference finals once.

The Chiefs and the Coyotes will now begin the best of seven division final series.

The winner of this series will face the winner of the playoff series between the 100 Mile House Wranglers and the Revelstoke Grizzlies in the conference finals.
