The Summerland Ice Hawks women’s hockey team took second place at the annual tournament held in Princeton on Feb. 19 to 20.

The Ice Hawks kicked off the two-day tournament defeating Merritt Fur Real 4-2 with goals from Leona Tank and a hat-trick from Lori Hopkins, who was given player of the game honours. Shaun Johnston led the Ice Hawks to a 3-2 win over the host Princeton squad with a pair of goals, earning her the player of the game. Joanne Parker netted the other Ice Hawks goal in the win.

On Sunday, the Ice Hawks jumped to a two-goal lead early in the game to fend off the Vernon Thrashers. Netminder Kristi Patton, who earned the player of the game honour, allowed only one goal in the 3-1 win. Johnston, Tank and Judy Beck tallied goals for the Ice Hawks. The two teams met again later on Sunday in the finals, but this time the Thrashers defence kept the Ice Hawks at bay. The Thrashers defeated the Ice Hawks 3-0 to win the tournament.
