The Summerland Minor Hockey Association hosted their annual awards banquets on April 16 and 17.
The senior awards were handed out on Saturday night. Teams awarded players in three categories: Most Improved: Dawson Handfield, Cawston Tower, Cam McKluskey, Devin Smithies. Most Dedicated: Cory Berekoff, Dakota Deane, Kaiden Woods, Jacob Schatz, Nicole Smith, Darien Folk, Kyler Stinson, Trevor Austin. Players Player: Linden Gove, Ali Parker, Gabriel Girard, Kyler Stinson, Kyle Morgan, Samuel Austin.
The Summerland Minor Hockey Association also gave out awards to coach of the year John Trewhitt, manager of the yea: Colleen Greenwood, safety person of the year Vince Bonanno, junior official of the year Patricia Gove and senior official of the year Rory Smith.
BC Hockey Minor Hockey Week awards went to Richard Anderson, Mike Fetterer, Dave Piket, Ron Semenoff, and Jodi Breitkreuz.
The Bela Blystone Memorial award was awarded to Ryan Blystone and Austin Warkentin.
Our True Spirit awards go to players who are graduating from high school and leaving SMHA. There were 17 players this season: Samuel Austin, Trevor Austin, Kenton Johnson, Devin Smithies, Tyrell Truman, Cameron McKluskey, Scott Hanon, Kyle Morgan, Tyler Sterk, Kylar Stinson, Brandon West, Brett Wilson, Meghan Brooks, Darnell Hatt, Nicole Smith, Stayton Danylowich, Kelsey Jones.
Thanks to the Summerland Royal Canadian Legion Branch #22 for donating the awards, Audie Yastremski of The Breakfast Club for providing a delicious buffet dinner and to Murray’s Pizza and Sidual Screen Printing for their prize donations.
The Initiation, Novice and Atom banquet was held on Sunday afternoon. The players enjoyed some road hockey, hot dogs and a bit of snow.
Tim Hortons donated medals and mini hockey sticks to all Initiation and Novice players.
Esso medals were given to the Atom players in the following categories.
Most Improved: Will Gray, Mereno Coco, Caden Brennan, Michael Johnson, Austin Bubar, Alexandros Tsoycalas, Tyson Harrington, Tamara Woods, Jared Walker, Spencer Boerboom. Most dedicated: Declan Riddle, Liam Hrncirik, Nathan Piket, Liam Trewhitt, Mitchell Gove, Remy Houde, Carter Tower, Ryan Campbell, Darren Keilty, Ty Sideroff, Ethan Brennan.
Most sportsmanlike: Raine Poznikoff, Faith Fraser, Logan Bubar, Jason Scherban.
